Interpreting Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

Content

Enrolled SSD Students

The Services for Students with Disabilities Office (SSD) coordinates Interpreting services for the deaf or hard of hearing students for classroom and lab requirements, and academic-related activities. Deaf and hard of hearing students should contact the SSD Interpreter Coordinator to share course schedules and discuss service needs as soon as they are registered for the semester. A Student: Interpreter Request form (link pending) must be filled out and submitted to the SSD Interpreter Coordinator at ssd@neb.edu regarding any interpreter requests for any academic activities that fall outside of regular class times.

If a current deaf or hard of hearing student, who is registered with the SSD office, wants to attend a nonacademic-related activity that is a UNL University Sponsored Event they should contact the University department sponsoring the event to request interpreting services.

Prospective Students

Prospective and in-coming students must inform Campus Visits, Admissions, and New Student Enrollment (NSE) if they need interpreting services for their visits/activities at UNL.

For best outcomes, 3 weeks’ notice is preferred for most interpreting requests. Additional time is preferred for the performing arts.
